International WOmen’s Day

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day. This is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This day is celebrated every year on March 8.

On this day people are encouraged to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about women’s equality, and fundraise for female-focused charities.

I would also add to the list that we should support women owned businesses. I have owned my own business for almost six years now and let me tell you, it hasn’t always been easy. One of the things that has helped my business to become successful is that I have had a number of clients share information about my business to their friends and family. So today, I encourage you to share some of your favorite woman owned businesses with your friends and family.

I would like to share a few women owned businesses that I have recently discovered and am loving.

  1. ThreadCrate - ThreadCrate is a monthly sewing subscription company owned by Cassandra Ross. I have been subscribed to ThreadCrates since their launch in October, 2020. I absolutely love every box that I have received. This is by far the most affordable garment making subscription box that I have found. Each month you receive a box or “crate” filled with everything that you need to make a beautiful knit garment as well as really handy sewing notions. The crates are so thoughtfully curated and size inclusive. The quality of the fabric and thread is unmatched! ThreadCrate has several different subscription options for Women, Men and children. 2. Tea by C (Tea by Claire) - Tea by Claire is a women owned online Tea company that has the most amazing monthly tea subscription on the market. I have been enjoying the delightful teas that I have received and I really hope that you will as well. The TeabyC subscription box is for someone who loves discovering tea from all over the world. I would say that this subscription is for a mature tea drinker who is interested in learning more about tea; how its made, the origin of the tea and clinical studies done with teas.

Tea By C's three values are quality, discovery, and sharing. All of the teas they source are high quality loose leaf teas that you can't find in grocery stores. Claire is a tea sommelier and she personally taste and research teas from all around the world to select the ones that meet her standard and that she will offer to her customers. Each tea comes with an informational card where she summarizes the origins, tasting notes, brewing instructions, scientific research, and other fun facts about the tea. For discount on your order use code: SEWANDSIP for $5 off anything in the shop (individual teas, teaware, and tea of the month club). https://www.teabyclaire.com/

  3. Nice Cosas - This is a woman owned online fabric store that is so delightful to shop. The lovely owner of this shop is Vanessa Sanchez. If you love amazing Mexican inspired fabric for quilting; dress making, unique facemarks and crafting, you will love this shop. The quality of the fabrics that I have purchased were so wonderful. The colors are vibrant and do not fade after washing. There are so many bold and beautiful fabrics to choose from. Check out Nice Cosas here: NICECOSAS.COM and tell Vanessa that I sent you.

  4. Sips by - Sips by is another tea subscription that I have recently subscripted to. I am really impressed by their fun emails and newsletters. I don’t usually subscribe to emailed newsletters but the first one that I received from Sips by gave me all the girlfriend feels. Bright colors, fun subjects and girl power vibes all over the place. I was especially impressed by an email that I received in February where they shared a long list of tea companies owned by black women. I had no idea that there are so many black women who own tea companies. My mind was blown. Sips by is a very affordable tea subscription which I think is perfect for those who like to sample small amounts of different types of tea. Every subscribers fills out a flavor profile survey and each tea box is curated special just for them. The information card included in this subscription even includes a special note written to the subscriber telling them about the teas in the box. The details that go into this subscription make me feel so special. Check out their subscription box: SIPSBY.COM

I really do hope that you check out some of these awesome women owned businesses. Lets support each other and lift each other up in the year of 2021!
